If you are missing teeth due to extractions or dental injury, then dental implants could provide a permanent solution. Unlike bridges, implants require no modification of the surrounding teeth.
When teeth are extracted or otherwise lost, the jaw bone that previously supported the tooth is no longer required. Bone therefore begins to deteriorate, leading to changes in your facial appearance. Dental implants stimulate and preserve the jawbone, preventing bone loss and maintaining your facial appearance.

What is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is essentially a titanium screw that is inserted into the jawbone. The implant supports a cosmetic crown that looks and feels like a real tooth. Bone grows around the implant creating a solid foundation for your new tooth. Dental implants can support a single tooth, bridges, dentures, or whole rows of teeth.

Will You Fit A Cosmetic Crown In The Same Visit?
Dental implants have a higher success rate when the osseointegration is allowed to occur before crowns are fitted, this normally takes three to four months. We will the discuss the benefits and drawbacks of fitting provisional crowns before osseointegration has occurred at your initial consultation.
Dental Implant Procedure
During the initial consultation, your dentist will carry out an assessment to determine your suitability for implants. Most people are suitable for the procedure, but in some cases minor bone grafting is required to ensure that the jaw provides enough support for the new implant. In some circumstances, it may also be necessary to carry out a 3d CAT scan before your implants are fitted, this allows us to assess the structure of hard and soft tissues, and to ensure that optimal results are achieved.
Your dentist will discuss the appropriate implant options with you, and may take dental impressions, record your tooth shade, and take photographs to assist our dental technicians in the manufacture of your new cosmetic crowns. The dental impressions allow us to create a wax model that demonstrates how your teeth will look with the new crowns fitted, for approval before the implant procedure is undertaken.
The process of fitting an implant is a relatively simple procedure which is carried out at our dental surgery in Harrogate. Most people experience very little discomfort as a result of the surgery and consider the benefits to vastly outweigh any discomfort they experienced.
Although it is sometimes possible to fit a temporary crown when we fit the implant, standard procedure is to wait three to four months to allow bone growth to stabilise the implant. We will then uncover the implant, and if applicable, install a temporary crown. We will also take further impressions which our dental technicians will use to craft your permanent crown. Temporary crowns will be replaced once the permanent crowns are ready. Prices for dental implants start at £2450.
